Battery care and assembly is one of the most misunderstood and neglected parts of the R/C racing activities. As a racer you spend good money purchasing batteries and you expect to get good results. However, if you neglect your batteries you will only get bad performance. Battery care is not complicated or time consuming and starts from the time of assembling your packs BATTERY ASSEMBLY The assembly of battery packs requires a number of ery essential items. The first is a battery jig which holds your cells in position while carrying out assembly. Whether you buy a cheap basic jig or the ultimate Deans jig it is an essential starting point. The next item that is the most important of all is the soldering iron. DO NOT USE A CHEAP IRON. It is a waste of time and can damage your cells because of the excess heat that you apply to the cells while trying to assemble the packs. Assembly cannot be carried out using a cheap $40 iron. You need a soldering station to get fast professional results.I have found the following method to provide the quickest and most efficient way of soldering your packs: Put a small amount of solder on the ends of each cell. (Additional flux can help here). Then put a small amount of solder on each end of the battery bar. Put the bar on top of the cells and quickly heat the solder on the bar which will form the joint. Again I stress that a good quality hot iron will do this best.
